Christmas Cards for Nellie

Hello Friends,

Nellie and I are feeling a bit blue this holiday season (we miss our home, our mountain, our meadow…) so I have an idea that might cheer us up.

Would you like to send Nellie a Holiday Card?  It would be fun to see how many readers send cards, and from how far away. Feel free to tell your friends – Let’s see how far we can spread the net!

Currently, Burning Down the House has readers in 46 states in the US and in over 20 countries around the world.  Since Nellie can read in many languages (she’s a genius dog!) feel free to write in a language other than English, if you prefer. (Actually, Nellie can only read in Spanish and English, but we can get help with the others.)

Deutsch?  Dansk? Francais?

If you would like to send a Holiday Card to Nellie, you can do so at this address:

Princess Nellie
c/o Chautauqua Main Office
900 Baseline Road
Boulder, CO 80302

(I’ll help her open the envelopes, since I’m the only one on the team with opposable thumbs…)

Thanks for sending us your good wishes during this Holiday Season. I’ll take pictures of the cards and keep you posted as to how many we receive. This should be fun!

Happy Holidays, and Lots of Love,

Andi and Nellie

(Hey, I feel better already!)

    Hi there,

I am Laura Bundy’s sister in Aurora. Laura let me know about your latest posting. I shared it with my special education students today in class. Nellie will be receiving cards from Eaglecrest High School students. Happy Holidays and all the best to you in 2011. May it be an easier year!!

P.S. I LOVED your Thanksgiving post.

      Hi Linda,

Your sister is so wonderful – she just sent me a box of home-made ornaments! And it sounds like it runs in the family. I’m looking forward to the cards for Nellie from your class.

      Happy Holidays,

      Andi and Nellie

Hi Andi. Thinking about you and Nellie this holiday season. Linking your request for Christmas cards for Nellie to my Monday blog. Many prayers your way.

    • Andi says:

Thanks Piper, that is so sweet of you. We’ve received about 15 cards so far for Miz Princess, and she sniffs and dances around each one, which makes me laugh with delight. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.

    Happy Holidays, Andi.

When you said you’d be getting cards for Princess Nellie from all over, I thought what a nice idea and I couldn’t help but think about myself, too!! When my dad passed away he left a stamp collection. None of my brothers had done anything with it, so when I moved back to town a few months ago, I volunteered to research the stamps and divvy them up. And I am really getting into it. I know it may sound silly, but these stamps may be the biggest contributor to my well being right now and perhaps to my regaining better health. Going through the collection and learning about the history of stamps and why some are valued better than others is giving me something to think about that is very interesting to me and actually something I can do for a bit everyday without too much exacerbation of pain (fibromyalgia). A gal has got to have something to do. Who woulda thunk it – stamps! Thanks, dad.

It is probably too much to ask, but if it’s not . . . I’d love to have any of the stamps on the envelopes for my new found hobby. Let me know via my email if this idea is possible. If my email doesn’t show, you can find me on the BMW site.

Thanks a bunch. Your fortitude reminds me that I have fortitude, too. And that sometimes, you gotta reach out to people for a little help.

Thanks Jean. It’s all about sharing our strength with each other, even when we feel like we don’t have much to give. I’ll let you know if I get any stamps from other countries – right now the farthest away card has come from New Hampshire! Thanks so much for writing.

    Hi Andi,

I wasn’t going to post a reply to this until I read the previous post. Damn, I wish I could do something, but I am so far away. I can’t talk to your lawyers, the adjuster or do any of the treadmill crap. I did one small thing, which was to send a card to Nellie today. I wanted it to be a complete surprise, but sometimes things are a little sweeter with some anticipation! If I lived in Boulder, I would cook for you. You might not be eating so well with so much to do. I wonder if there is also room for some fun stuff–you seem pretty balanced, and I hope there is time for a hike, hanging with friends, or a movie or curling up with Nellie and a good book! Please know I think of you often, and the picture I have of you is that you are moving forward, getting things done.

    All my best,
    Jodi

Good holiday wishes, positive energy, friendship, a card and “treat” for dear Nellie are on their way from your northern friends in Alaska. Keep on writing. God bless you both!
